Italian Dinner Benefits Mercy Memorial Hospital System Cancer Connection

Cancer Connection’s 6th Annual Italian Dinner is planned for October 4, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, located at 630 North Monroe Street in Monroe.

Mini penne pasta with meatballs, salad with Italian dressing and rolls with butter will be served for dinner followed by Italian cookies and spumoni ice cream for dessert. Coffee, ice tea and punch will also be served. There will also be door prizes, a silent auction and entertainment.

Cancer Connection uses 100% of funds raised to provide services, equipment and supplies to Monroe County residents diagnosed with cancer. Patients in need of supplies and/or services such as nutritional supplements, transportation to doctor’s appointments and more will benefit from your attendance.

Tickets are available through Cancer Connection at $10/adults, $5/kids 6 to 10 and kids 6 and under are free. For further information, call (734) 240-5400.

Canines 4 a Cause Raises Over $1,100 for Cancer Connection

People and pooches alike enjoyed the day on May 19at Munson Park for the second annual Canines For A Cause, held my Cancer Connection volunteers Mary Goode and Rolfe. The photo contest prior to the event raised $357.

The winners were Handsome Jack, Are you Real, Best Friends and Not Playboy, Play dog. The contest for the Cutest Canine Outfit was Bentley the Sheriff (owner Michele Bodoh), Waggiest Tail was Zoey (owner  Simone Cossette), Best Six Legs was Ella  and owner Tina Gere, The Dog the Judges Most Want to Take Home was Colby Jack (owner Mike Goode), and Best Trick winner was Chance (owner Doug Kuras).

A big thank you to everyone who participated, including the sponsors: Dr. Irving Hwang, United Way of Monroe, Delores Barron, Masserant’s Feed and Grain, Ark Animal Clinic, Ida Farmer’s Co-Op, David Bezek, D.V.M., Phd. And Tim Horton’s on Monroe Street.

Mercy Memorial Cancer Connection is a United Way organization and a program of Mercy Memorial Hospital.  Volunteers drive patients to cancer centers within a 50-mile radius of MMHS, fuel cards assist those who can drive themselves. Nutritional supplements, medical supplies, support groups, wigs, hats and scarves are all provided on a donation basis to residents of Monroe County. 

Cancer Connection Motorcycle Ride

The 7th Annual Motorcycle ride for Cancer Connection was coordinated with the Monroe County Relay for Life on June 1.

Cancer Connection works with The Christian Motorcycle Association each year to organize this ride to raise funds for Monroe County cancer patients who are either underinsured or not insured. Cancer Connection raised $1,400 from the event.

Sponsors included: Paul’s Quality Collision, United Way of Monroe County, Hampton Inn of Monroe, Monroe Motorsports, VFW #3943, Dr. Irving Hwang, Matt Urban Post #40, Monroe Signs, J and R Transmission and Tim Horton on Telegraph Road.
